At my age, getting a second chance at life is a huge privilege after all I went through.

I need to be the face of Matany in Katakwi, I don’t think everyone has a thorough appreciation of the goodness of this hospital.

I have had the roughest childhood but this hospital is the only light that I can look up to and reflect on God’s love.

Pre-internship is such a great opportunity to find a bridge between the Medical school and a forthcoming internship. The majority of our interns liked the experience and preferred to be posted with us, moreover, some returned to volunteer further after the internship.

There are a few conditions that are to be met by the pre-interns to create a win-win situation;

A Pre-intern will need to find a place to stay during this time; you will need to rent out close to the hospital.
The hospital does not pay volunteers other than the teaching and training/supervision volunteers receive from the doctors (specialists and Medical officers).
As it stands, there is no specific arrangement for meals, other than breakfast served within the hospital, A volunteer will have to get meals out of pocket. The hospital has a proper cafeteria where meals are served over 12 hours a day.

I witnessed resilience in its purest form and learned that medicine extends far beyond hospital corridors. Every outreach trip strengthened my skills, deepened my compassion, and reminded me that even the smallest intervention can change a life.

My experience at Matany Hospital has been one of the most defining chapters of my medical journey. Matany taught me medicine beyond textbooks ,it taught me resilience, humility, and the true meaning of service.

I arrived in early June, fresh out of med school, carrying a backpack stuffed with textbooks and nerves. The hospital gates opened onto that familiar red‑brick corridor, the scent of antiseptic blending with the crisp Matany air. Dr. Ssembusi John, the Head of Interns, welcomed us with a firm handshake and a knowing smile that said.

The experience and skills I’ve gained have been invaluable, and I’m thankful for the support and guidance from the entire team.

St. Kizito Hospital Matany – Nursing and Midwifery Training School (NMTS) is a full Board Vocational training School, located in Matany Town Council, Napak District, Karamoja Sub – region.

It was established in October 1984 and begun with Certificate in Nursing with a vision for quality training of health care Staff of high moral and professional standards.
